Service Description

Important: All dogs must be comfortable resting in your car between searches. A little bit about Rachel… 👋🐾 For those of you who are new to Happy Dog Training, I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Rachel, and I have a diverse background spanning pet dog scentwork, sport detection, and operational explosive detection. Throughout my journey I’ve had the privilege of competing, instructing, judging, mentoring instructors, and working as an operational Explosive Detection Dog Handler. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of detection work, allowing me to bring practical, real-world concepts into my training in a way that is enjoyable and accessible for pet dogs and their handlers. As a qualified City & Guilds Detection Dog Handler & Instructor, and a judge and trial organiser for both the National Nosework Association and Nosework Games, I’m passionate about helping every team develop confidence, focus, and a strong working partnership. Through Happy Dog Training I’ve worked with pet owners, competition teams, and fellow instructors, delivering classes, workshops and seminars across the UK. Whether your goal is to have fun with your dog, progress in competition, or simply enjoy learning together, my aim is to provide supportive, high-quality training that gets the very best from both ends of the lead. One thing that makes my workshops a little different is that they are inspired by the principles of operational detection, carefully adapted for the pet dog community. The focus isn’t on turning pet dogs into operational dogs, but on using proven detection concepts to build better search behaviours, stronger communication, greater confidence, and successful partnerships. The plan for the weekend:- Search Strategies Day 1: Route Searching Day 2: Area/Building searching, and where we can apply the route strategy from day 1 in these areas. Explore the main route searching methods commonly used by operational detection dog teams and discover how these proven techniques can be adapted for sports detection and pet dog Scentwork. Breaking each method down to its core foundations, teaching the skills step by step before progressing to full route searches and incorporating them into larger areas. during the weekend, you will:- - learn principles behind operational searching -learn how to teach the foundations of different route search methods -apply route sections within larger, more complex search scenarios
